Language for business

Language for business with Dr Debbie Elliott

French and Italian

Tuition available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am to 9pm, Thursdays from 10am to 2pm

Do you or your colleagues need to learn French or Italian to help you achieve your business goals? Perhaps members of your sales team need to discuss your products with customers abroad. Or perhaps you're preparing for a meeting, a conference or a trade show overseas and need to be familiar with specific terminology and expressions.

Whatever your requirements, I can design a perfect language training programme for you, enabling you to focus on what is useful without wasting time on non-essential topics. I offer tailor-made courses in French and Italian, incorporating sector-specific terminology for all kinds of industries, from leather manufacturing to solar energy.

How it works

First, we'll arrange a meeting to discuss your specific goals and ascertain how you're intending to use your acquired language skills. Then, based on a thorough understanding of the products and/or services you offer, I will compile a bespoke bilingual glossary of specific terminology for your business. This will not only serve as an excellent reference resource for your company, it will also help me structure and deliver your tailor-made training programme. And don't worry if the vocabulary you use is obscure - as an experienced technical translator, I have a wealth of terminology at my fingertips, access to hundreds of linguistic databases, and the research skills to find exactly the right terms for your needs.

My aim is to make lessons as relevant and enjoyable as possible, helping students fully understand the concepts behind the rules of the language, learn vocabulary and useful expressions, and gain confidence. I will design clear and targeted learning resources to help students get the most out of their lessons without feeling stressed or frustrated. And I am happy to explain things as many times as needed, providing plenty of useful examples, to ensure that students feel comfortable and always look forward to their next lesson.

Lesson arrangements

Courses for business are available on a one-to-one basis or for small groups.

Programmes can be of any duration (daily, weekly, intensive) and normally take place in-house on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (10am to  9pm) or Thursdays (10am to 2pm).

Teaching face-to-face rather than online is important for all kinds of reasons - language learning is communicative, after all! So please note that I only offer Zoom lessons to existing students when face-to-face teaching is not permitted (e.g. due to a lockdown).

Flexibility

All learning programmes are flexible, so you can choose:

  • how often you would like your lessons
  • whether you would like to arrange tuition during the daytime or in the evening
  • what you would like to focus on: speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, translation or a combination of skills
  • how much self-study you would like between lessons, so that I can set appropriate tasks
  • when you need to take time off, if you are planning a holiday or just need a break when life gets busy

Prices

Prices for business language courses are dependent on the amount of terminology involved, the duration of the course and the number of students. A detailed quote will be provided after our initial meeting, based on your specific needs.

Please call me on 07981 853063 to book your first lesson and discuss your language-learning goals.

And if you'd just like to ask a few questions, that's fine too.
